Piano Music of Federico Ibarra

CD Cover

The complete solo piano music of Mexican composer Federico Ibarra Groth, including Sonatas, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 0 and Páramo Pétreo. Federico Ibarra’s music for piano has an extraordinarily magical quality about it. It is emotionally charged, ranging from ethereally delicate to intensely passionate. The overall sound has an immediacy that invites the listener to connect with it on first hearing, yet there is ample underlying complexity to reward repeated and detailed listening.

Available from CDBaby, Amazon, iTunes

Sonidos de Nueva España

Compact disc cover

Music by Federico Ibarra (Sonatas 2 and 3); Rodolfo Halffter (Homenaje a Antonio Machado and Secuencia); José Pablo Moncayo (Muros Verdes); Eduardo Hernández Moncada (Costeña);and Blas Galindo (Siete Piezas). Piano music by Mexican composers is not often heard outside Mexico. While the composers of Mexico have not focused on the piano like those of many other countries of Latin America, and throughout the world, there is much Mexican piano music that is well worth listening to and getting to know intimately. The works that appear in this recording were selected based on my personal taste, and include some of my favorite pieces by my favorite Mexican composers for the piano.
